Through yoga and breathing exercises we can improve the functioning of our brain and nervous system. Pranayama means the control over prana, the life force. The prana is inhaled through the nose and flows through the energy channels. When you breathe through your mouth, you miss prana. This leads to a reduction of the immune system and limits the functioning of vital glands and the nervous system. By doing breathing exercises we clean the energy channels. With the nadi shodana pranayama, for example, we activate the left and the right brain hemisphere and bring them into balance. Meditation also has a positive effect on brain activity as it changes and shapes the structure of the brain.
